France

One of the most important wine-producing countries in the world is France. Some of the most important regions are located here and none of them can deny a specific "terroir". Exceptional wines that include sparkling wines from Reims to heavy red wines from the Languedoc. You can find all important world varieties here. Whether it is Syrah from Rhone or Sauvignon from the Loire Valley or Chardonnay from Burgundy all these wines are of excellent quality.

 

Bordeaux

This is one of the most productive regions in France. It is dominated by red wines that are, to a small extent, complemented by dry white wine and is famous its sweet white wines. A large number of appellations often provide very different wines and the best of them have the highest qualitative rankings. The Bordeaux region located on the banks of the Gironde which is divided into so-called, left and right banks. The best wines of the appellation Médoc, Haut - Médoc, Margaux, St. Julien and Graves come from the left bank and Pomerol and St. Emilion are from the right bank. Watch out for the cheap red wines produced in large quantities in inadequate quality from this amazing region.

 

Château La Lagune

This winery is located in Haut – Médoc and has 80 hectares of vineyards. They have been categorized as Grand Cru classé since 1855. The best of their wines are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. All of which are completed by smaller proportions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Aged in barrels of French oak, 50% of which is new.

Château Sociando – Mallet

This winery is located in the village of Saint - Seurin - de - Cadourne in Haut - Médoc area. It has been owned by Jean Gautreauem since 1969 and it currently cares for 85 hectares producing 500,000 bottles of first and second wines. As s small addition to Cabernet Franc there is Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Château La Fleur de Boüard

This family run winery is owned by Hubert de Boüard de Laforest, co-owners of Château Angelus. Their wine is made up of almost 90% Merlot with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Twenty-eight hectares of vineyards are located in the appellation of Lalande de Pomerol and the soil is clayey and filled with huge boulders.

Château Brane Cantenac

This winery has been Grand Cru classé since 1855. It is composed of 75 hectares of vineyards in what is called Margaux. It has been owned by the Henri Lurton family for several generations. Their base consists of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and is slightly dominated by Cabernet. It is accompanied by Cabernet Franc and a tiny part of Carmenere, which is a classic French variety. However, these days it can almost only be found in the New World.

Château d'Issan

This winery has been Grand Cru classé since 1855. The Cruse family have owned it since 1945. The vine grows on gravel with a clay subsoil. The composition of the first wine is typical for the Margaux appellation having 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot. The wine is aged for 18 months in oak barrels.

Château du Tertre

This winery of the Margaux appellation manages 52 hectares of vineyards. It has been Grand Cru classé since 1855. Cabernet Sauvignon, with Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot play a dominant role among its wines. The vineyards sit on bedrock composed of deep gravel. The wine is aged for 17 months in barrels, about 50% of which is new.

Château Lascombes

This winery has held the famous Grand Cru classé since1855. They farm on extensive plots of approximately 112 hectares of vineyards in the Margaux appellation. The winery has undergone a resurgence in the new millennium under the leadership of Dominique Befve which currently produces top-quality wines. They produce a considerable proportion of Merlot complemented with Cabernet Sauvignon and to a small degree Petit Verdot I is also represented. Vines are grown on a loamy soil with limestone gravel. The wine is aged for 18 months in barrels, approximately 80% of which is new.

Château Malescot St. Exupery

The Zuger family purchased the winery in Margaux in 1955, exactly one hundred years after it received the Grand Cru classé. Today, the winery tends to 28 hectares of vineyards and is situated on the gravel of the Pyrenees. The composition of varieties, of course, varies with race, but there is practically an identical proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon to Merlot complemented by a small proportion of Cabernet Franc. The wine is aged for 12 months in barrels - 75% of which is new.

Château Palmer

This famous winery in Margaux is named after an English general who owned the winery early in the 19th century. The winery currently farms on 55 hectares of vineyards on bedrock of deep gravel. Its famous first wine has a potential for aging. Of particular importance is the so-called second wine named Alter Ego, which reaches the quality of many first wines. They produce a Merlot in slightly larger proportions than Cabernet Sauvignon. Alter Ego is complemented with Petite Verdot.

This winery produce wines based on the variety Cabernet Sauvignon complemented by Merlot. The vineyards sit on deep Quaternary gravels that have an area of ​​73 hectares and are located in Pauillac appellation. This winery has been Grand Cru classé since 1855.

Château Grand Puy Lacoste

This has been a part of the Borie family property since 1987. They farm on the Pauillac appellation on 90 hectares of vineyards. The bedrock of vineyards is composed of deep rough gravel. This wine is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon complemented by Merlot. Wines age in oak barrels for 18 months, 75% of which is new.

This winery is located in the Pauillac appellation. They farm on 22 hectares of vineyards growing 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. It has been owned by the Borie family since 1932. The wine is aged for 20 months in oak barrels, 40% of which is new.

Château Beaureguard

The history of the winery dates back to the 11th century. The vineyards are located in the Pomerol appellation which covers 17 ½ hectares of vineyards. The bedrock the vineyard is composed of sand and gravel. The have mostly Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Their Merlot is dominant and represents more than two-thirds of wines grown here. Wines are aged for 19 months in new barrels.

Château Clinet

This winery is located in the heart of the Pomerol appellation, where the Laborde family manages 11 hectares of vineyards. They lie on the bedrock of the old gravel and clay. Their wine is composed mostly on the Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc varieties. They are aged for 16 months in barrels, 60% of which are new.

The Nicolas family has owned the winery since 1871. The winery belongs to the Pomerol appellation. They manage 12 hectares of vineyards on dirt and gravel on ferric bedrock. Merlot is their key variety and it is complemented by Cabernet Franc. Their wines are aged for 18 months in oak barrels, 65% of which is new each year.

Château Petit Village

This is a smaller Château that manages 10 hectares of vineyards in the Pomerol appellation. The vineyard sits on deep gravelly bedrock with sand and clays. The key varieties in Pomerol are Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Wines are aged for 16 months in oak barrels, 65% of which are new each year.

The Château belongs to the von Neipperg family. Premier Grand Cru Classé of the appellation Saint – Émilion. The vineyard, which has an average age of 35 years, sits on limestone clay and has a sandy clay subsoil. Merlot is the predominant variety and it is complemented by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is aged for 15 months in wood barrels, 80% of which are new.

Clos de l'Oratorie

This winery is owned by the von Neipperg family and is Grand Cru Classé in the Saint Émilion appellation. It is composed of 10.32 hectares of vineyards that lie on clay limestone and clay sandy soil. They produce 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The wine ages for 14 months in barrels, 60% of which is new.

Château Fombrauge

This Château is in the categorized under the Grand Cru Classé and is from Saint Émilion. It is relatively a large vineyard that is composed of 45 hectares. The vineyards are sit on a bedrock of clay and limestone. Their primary wines are Merlot and Cabernet Franc and they produce a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon. Their wines are aged for 18 months in barrels and about 50% of them are new.

Château Figeac

This is one of the icons of Saint Émilion and in Bordeaux in general. It is categorized under 1er Grand Cru Classé. The Manoncourt family has owned it since 1892 and it is composed of 54 hectares of vineyards, 40 of which are their own. The varietal composition is a third Cabernet Sauvignon, a third Cabernet Franc and a third Merlot. This cuvée is called Figeac style. The wine is aged for 17 months in new barrels.

Château Pavie Macquin

This is a Grand Cru Classé from the Saint – Émilion appellation and it is owned by the Corre Macquin family. They have only 15 hectares of vineyards planted on soil which is composed of clay - limestone on limestone bedrock. Merlot is dominant here and it complemented by a touch of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The first wine ages for 18 months in barrels, 60% of which are new.

This winery is from the Saint Éstephe appellation and has been categorized as Grand Cru Classé since1855. The Bouygues family manages 94 hectares of vineyards, where they mostly grow Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, but also Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The vineyards lie on bedrock where there is deep gravel with clay. The first wine ages for 18 months in barrels 40% of which are new.

Château Ormes de Pez

This château is owned by the Cazes family. Their vineyards are located in Saint Éstephe appellation. They have a total range is 37 hectares of vineyards with Garon sands with clay subsoil. They produce varietals of Cabernet Sauvignon that dominates slightly over Merlot and is complemented by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The first wine ages for 15 months in barrels, 45% of which are new.

Burgundy

One of the most acclaimed wine regions in all of France is Burgundy. This historically important area manages to keep its distinct charm that can be seen in both their wines and foods. This region is renowned for great wines like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. These wines are rustic yet elegant and often have the potential for archiving. Small locations and production from various appellations increase the already high interest and demand for these wines.

 

 

Domaine de Bellene

This Winery was founded in 2005 by a famous French winemaker named Nicolas Potel. The vineyards, which are between 50 and 100 years old, are located in the northern part of Burgundy in what is called Côte d'Or. Nicolas produces his wines in harmony with nature by applying friendly interventions in the vineyard. He uses natural sprays and even hand-picks the grapes and places them in small five pound crates. This is all reflected in the final form and quality of Nicolas' wines.

Italy

This is a country with a large number of wine styles and varieties, often autochthon. The vine is grown in almost all regions of Italy. Perhaps the most sophisticated food pairings with meals can be found in Italy and Italians enjoy this passionately. The most important wine regions are undoubtedly Piemonte and Tuscany that produce great red wines. White wines grow well not just in Trentino and Friuli.

 

Piemonte

This an area situated in northern Italy under the foothills of the Alps. Hot summers and a cold, humid autumn is typical for Piemonte and the character is obviously carried over into their local wines. They grow two major red varieties - Nebbiolo and Barbera. Another variety that complements those mentioned above is Dolcetto, which is popular among locals for daily drinking. As for white wines, there is a sweet, sparkling Moscato, Sauvignon or a local variety Roero Arneis.

Giorgio Pelissero

Azienda Agricola was established in 1960 in Treisu and it now tends to 38 hectares of vineyards, producing over 250,000 bottles. The basis of the production is of course the Nebbiolo variety and this is complemented by Barbera and Dolcetto - red wines, and Moscato and autochthon Freisa - white wines. Treiso is located in the heart of the Barbaresco region, where we can find three Barbarescos in the production of Giorgio Pelissero. The main one is Barbaresco Nubbiola and two others from single vineyards are called Tulin and Vanotu.

Toscana

This is not only an xxtraordinary region for wine. The combination of wine, food, history, and the local landscapes are at a majestic peak. The three most important sub-regions are Chianti, Montalcino and Bolgheri. Each region is independent and completely different. The Bolgheri seaside boasts red wines from varieties not so typical for this region (mainly Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon). Just south of Florence is Chianti and little further to the south is Montalcino which is famous for its local variety of Sangiovese. Brunello di Montalcino together with Barolo and Barbaresco from Piedmont are considered to be the three red kings of Italy. White wine is in minority.

Moravia

This is an often unjustly neglected region which is also one of the northernmost ones. The colder climate is suitable for white wines. These wines are higher acidity, are not drab, but are fruity and spicy. Fresh white wines such as those from Palava are of excellent quality. The Pinot Noir in good years also have remarkable results.

 

 

Jaromír Gala

This Palava winery is located in the village of Bavory. The Pálava region is a place with ideal conditions and the winery produces a delicate, mineral wine. The winery has small with very high quality. The winery places an emphasis on the white varieties, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Riesling. Gala also produces a delicious red Pinot Noir. The winery puts an effort to keeping continuity in successive years.

Stapleton & Springer

Jaroslav Springer is a winemaker from Bořetice who focuses on the cultivation and production of Pinot Noir. The winery was founded in 2004 with the merger of Jaroslav Springer and Benjamin Craig Stapleton. They manage 16 hectares of their own vineyards, almost invariably planted with Pinot Noir. The vineyards are farmed in an organic way. Inspiration of Burgundy is evident, resulting in exceptionally delicious Pinot varieties, which are very popular among the lovers of this variety.

Jakub Šamšula

A young winemaker from Čejkovice who focuses on the production of white wines. He gradually built a modern winery from a small family cellar. He offers classic white varieties (Chardonnay, Riesling, and Sauvignon) which is supplemented with Pinot Noir. His wines are popular and appealing for everyday drinking.

Trpělka & Oulehla

This famous winery was founded in 1991 in Nove Branice. Thanks to the specific position of Kounice (lying on the sand and gravel) the winery produces interesting red wines such as Lemberger, Zweigelt or Pinot Noir, and excellent white wines like Grüner Veltliner and Sauvignon. They also produce an excellent dry Palava.

Libor Veverka

Is another representative of Čejkovice winemakers in Garage wine menu. It is a family winery producing small amounts of wine. All production comes from their own vineyards. The grapes are processed using the most advanced technology. They have a very interesting Chardonnay from barrels and even a full and creamy Neronet.

The popularity of Austrian wines worldwide is growing by the year. The most important wine regions are located in the eastern part of the country around Vienna, on the banks of the Danube and by the Hungarian border. The most important varieties are Grüner Veltliner, Riesling and Zweigelt. Mineral white wines have exceptional quality at lower yields. The best red wines are from the area of Burgenland.

 

Burgenland

The area is situated on the shores of Lake Neusiedler and is famous for its red and naturally sweet wines. It is one of the warmest regions from Austria and is more varied than other areas in Austria. They not only have an excellent Zweigelt, but also a Lemberger or even Merlot. The most important centers are Gols and Rüst and for sweet wines, Ilmitz.

 

Gut Oggau

This family winery is located in the village of Oggau located on the west bank of Neusiedlersee . Eduard Tscheppe puts emphasis on delicate work in the vineyard both to the vines and to the soil. The result brings out a full, extractive wine that meets the strictest criteria of Demeter. Natural, yet pure wine with a potential for archiving.

Helmut Preisinger

This well-known winemaker from the famous village of Gols produces a large amount of red and white wines. He specializes not only on the local king Zweigelt, but also on the varieties of Merlot, Shiraz, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon. His wines are very highly rated.

Weingut Salzl

This family winery is located on the eastern shores of Lake Neusiedl in the famous wine village of Ilmitz. The warm air coming from the Pannonian Basin gives the region a unique microclimate with hot summers and cold winters. The vast lake serves as a natural climate regulator which mitigates weather fluctuations. Its 300 sunny days a year provide excellent conditions for growing grapes. The process is then completed in a cellar using the latest technologies. Careful work with each barrel completes it without altering its character. The result is then high-class wines that perfectly represent the region they came from.

 

Zweigelt reserve 2012

Their vines are grown in a gravel subsoil and a loamy surface soil. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, followed by 18 months of aging in small oak barrels. They consist of a smell of vanilla, cinnamon, berries and cherries. The taste follows suit with the aroma and the wine is pleasantly juicy and a bit of a minerals with soft tannins to touch it off. The wine is suitable for further aging in bottle. It is a perfect addition to red meat with dark sauces or with veal liver.

 

Syrah 2012

These grapes are gathered from vineyards with a sandy subsoil. The wine is aged for 18 months in small new oak barrels. This fruity vine had predominantly currant tones where we can find strong traces of spice, tobacco, vanilla and nuts. There are also hints of anise and liquorice after some time of aging. It is spicy and elegant. This typical Syrah is of top quality among Burgenland wines. It has significant potential for aging.  It is a perfect addition to venison and to fatty red meats.

 

Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

This wine comes from vineyards with a sandy subsoil. It is aged for 16 months in small new oak barrels. It is a ruby red Cabernet that has a smell composed of distinctive hints of black currant, vanilla, eucalyptus and berries. The taste is strong with minerals and this juicy wine has pleasant tannins with a dried fruit aftertaste.  This complex wine will evolve and change while aging in a bottle. It is an excellent addition to lean red meats.

 

Sacris Premium 2011

These grapes are gathered from vineyards with gravel subsoil and loamy surface soil. The wine is aged for 16 in small new oak barrels. One of the flagships of the winery is the 100% Zweigelt variety which reveals its hidden face in this wine.  This highly dense wine can normally be found in a cuvee from Southern France. There are tones of dried plums, vanilla and fruit compote accompanied by fresh acid with gentle hints of olives, paprika and chocolate. This wine goes great with red meats and dark sauces.
